  28. We use the speed and parity fields.  Some of our services are through a
  29. PACX to an IBM mainframe.  This path requires even parity and a maximum
  30. speed of 9600.  The remaining services are through telnet servers: no
  31. parity and the fastest speed the PC<->modem can reliably maintain.
  32. Would we care if the format of the distributed dialing directory changed?  
  33. Not terribly.  MSK's scripting abilities would let us get by.

  35. As an aside, we also use the comment field.  If it contains the word Queen's
  36. I add a dialing prefix.  Your recent discussion on portable dialing directories
  37. has shown me some flaws in my approach here.  But the moral is that when
  38. you change the format of the dialing directory some people will have to
  39. rework things.  I don't consider that a big burden.

  41. This may be completely impractical, but is there any chance the new format
  42. could be defined in the next month?  If so I could react to the changes in
  43. time for September which is when most students grab their copy of Kermit
  44. for the year.
